Earwax Cafe

A friend and I went on a trip to Wicker Park and we ate at Earwax Cafe. Yes, the name is kind of gross but it peaked the friend's interest so that's where we ate. It was fairly low prices(cash only!) for the area and both the food and service were excellent. I kept accidently giving the waitress looks as if we were waiting for her so she kept coming to check on us. Sorry! She's also in the photo below which I hope she doesn't mind.

Images of the interior and the nameless friend/ I'll leave it to you to guess who it is based on the color of her shirt. The whole place had a circus/sideshow theme so the booths had really cool high backs and I loved the fenced entrance. I'm sorry the quality is so bad but it was a pretty sunny day so they didn't turn on the lights and the entire front of the restaurant was open.

I had the sweet potato and black bean quesadilla with salsa on top on the left and the friend had something whose name I can't remember and couldn't pronounce but it was really good. It had tortillas, eggs, salsa, arice, and black beans in it. I personally don't like black bean very much so I didn't eat most of mine but the other entree was love. It was a bit like extraordinary breakfast fare (which I always love) with a little bit of a spicy kick. When I eat there again I might just order something with thier earwax sauce(spice?ingredient? sorry, can't remember)

Also, I suppose it's about time to spiffy up this blog thing. Maybe next week.

The Aortic Valve

Yes, we suck at updating. But there really is no point in posting on a blog intended to show each other things when we see each other everyday, is there?

Anyway, on our three(4?) short weeks together, we managed to lunch at one of our favorite spots. We love Cafe Aorta- partly because we discovered it shortly after studying the heart in AP Bio (yes, we're nerds and we love it) and partly because it was one of the cutest little places we had every seen! We sat outside which there sadly was kind of no point to. The view outside can be described as not quite dismal. Located at the corner of south 21st and Damen in Pilsen, the surrounding area isn't much to be excited about. There was only so much the flowers could do.

The inside is more quaint with local art hanging on the walls and baked goods lying around everywhere.

Some of the tables keep with the heart theme and the food is good too. The one on top is pasta with vegetarian meatballs with a side of their "kickass garlic bread." And the bottom one is an egg salad sandwich with a side of grilled veggies.

And here's a photo of the front with Papi Perez the owner (who also makes all the food behind the counter) in case you get lost trying to find it. I'm totally not saying this from personal experience.
